If the global crisis worsens, each Earth Day takes on much greater importance. ![]() Not only is Earth Day now a common time for many communities to come together to clean up garbage, plant plants, or simply focus on the beauty of nature, but it is now becoming a popular time for many communities to come together to clean up litter, grow trees, or simply reflect on the beauty of nature. An impressive 20 million Americans-10 percent of the population-took to the streets to condemn dangerously serious problems such as contaminated drinking water, air pollution, and the effects of pesticides. The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, when John McConnell, a San Francisco protester, and Gaylord Nelson, a Wisconsin senator, both invited Americans to participate in a grassroots protest. Of course, social distancing does not exclude you from enjoying nature, as long as you do so safely! Enjoying in the lap of nature hasn’t been canceled so far! On Earth Day, virtual activities such as environmental seminars and films will be held. For those of us, social distancing is already in effect this April, so Earth Day has gone digital. Each year, Earth Day is given a new theme or area of focus this year’s theme is “ Restore Our Earth.”Įarth Day activities often vary from river cleanups to invasive species removals. This year we will celebrate the 52 anniversary of World Earth Day. This is a shared responsibility for all of us. I believe that caring for nature, animals, and the soil is essential to our own well-being and that each of us bears individual responsibility! If it’s a therapeutic stroll in the forests, cleaning up trash while cycling, or purchasing more environmentally conscious items. World Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22.
